The Department is in charge of schools inspection and monitoring in the state.
The Department co-ordinates the activities of the Area Education Offices in the 18 Local Government Areas which monitor activities of schools in the Local Government Areas.
It also co-ordinates the activities of the State Monitoring Unit on National Policy on Education (SMUNPE) which in itself is responsible for implementing all issues emanating from the National Policy on Education via the Joint Consultative Council on Education (JCCE – Reference & Plenary) and the National Council on Education.
Co-ordinates the activities of the State Examination Ethics and Disciplinary Committee (SEEDC) established by an act of parliament.
The Inspectorate Services Department co-ordinates the activities of Private Primary and Secondary Schools.
Inspects and recommends Private Schools for the approval of the Honourable Commissioner for Education.
Monitoring Learning Achievements (MLA) in educational institutions below the tertiary level.
It is responsible for:
Collecting, collation, processing, analysis, publication and dissemination of educational data for planning purposes.
Maintenance of regular data bank on staff, students and equipment statistics of intuitions in the State.
Capacity building for education officers and education managers
Establishment of public secondary schools.
Preparation of annual budget for the ministry.
Monitors compliance with the national curriculum in schools.
Carry out periodic review of textbooks at both primary and secondary school level.
Anchored registration of eligible students for WAEC and NECO examinations.
Analysis of WAEC and NECO results
It is responsible for keeping in line with the Federal Government policy on science and Technology.
It anchors science related competitions in secondary schools.
It anchors technological and vocational education in secondary schools.
It anchors the procurement and distribution of science equipment in secondary schools.
It anchors activities of science equipment centre.
It is in charge of formulation and implementation of policies of science and Technology in respect of secondary schools.
The department is in charge of conduct and processing of examinations in the state.
Common Entrance Examinations into public secondary schools and Unity schools.
It awards certificate for JSCE and Primary six leaving certificate.
It conducts SS2 joint promotion examination at the state level.
The department is in charge of all Government Unity Secondary Schools in the State and State Tertiary Institutions.
It anchors interschool competitions among secondary schools.
It anchors and coordinates sporting activities in secondary schools.
It monitors the conduct of JAMB and national common Entrance examination.
It coordinates activities of public secondary schools – PTA, SBMC etc
Coordination and supervision of special schools.
The unit is responsible for provision and maintenance of infrastructure in secondary schools.
The Unit is in charge of fund mobilization for Education Development in the state.
It is responsible for the development of needed tools in carrying out Continuous Assessment and Evaluation of educational system in the State.
It carries out regular campaign against drug abuse and HIV in public and private secondary schools.
Coordinating the activities of Guardiance and Counsellor in secondary schools.
Evaluation of Certificates.
It is responsible for the administrative issues and personnel matters of the Ministry.
This department is responsible for keeping and maintenance of financial accounts of the Ministry.
